Our Mission Statement

To faithfully practice, teach & preach the doctrine of Jesus Christ and His Holy Apostles.

And they continued stedfastly in the Apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers (Acts 2:42)

The Apostolic Doctrine:
What We Believe

We Believe in one Lord, one Faith, and one Baptism.

(Ephesians 4:5)

We Believe that the Holy Bible is the Word of God. It is true, inerrant and infallible. It contains the keys to inheriting eternal life, and it reveals the mystery of our faith.

(John 5:39, Deuteronomy 29:29)

We Believe, teach and preach that Jesus is the Son of GOD as revealed to the Apostle Peter and taught by the Apostles.

(Matthew 16:16)

We Believe and Accept God's plan of salvation of baptism by water and spirit. Jesus Christ, who was our perfect example, though sinless, was baptized to fulfill righteousness.

(John 3:5, Matthew 3:15)

We Believe that water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is essential for forgiveness of sins, and confirms our belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

(Acts 2:38, Acts 8:37)

We Believe that rebirth by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential today as it was in the days of the Apostles.

(Acts 2:4)

We Believe that the Word of God must be proclaimed throughout all the world, according to God's commandment.

(Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:15, Romans 10:18)

We Believe in dressing in modest apparel according to I Timothy 2:9-10 and I Corinthians 11:14-15 and also Deuteronomy 22:5.

CHurch History

In December 1955, Elder Nelson T. Owens moved from Brownsville, Tennessee to Chicago, Illinois. He and his wife, Lola Owens, were baptized in Jesus’ Name and filled with the Holy Ghost. This took place after their daughter, Sister Mae Lena, and son-in-law, Elder Edward Burks, witnessed to them the difference the Holy Ghost made in their lives.

Elder Owens founded Christ Temple Church with Sister Owens and their children, Emma Ruth, Mae Lena, James, John, Frank, and Clarence. Their love for souls and the labor of their hands established the firm foundation with which Christ Temple Church was built. Elder John P. Bellamy, Sr. was sent to assist Elder Owens with the approval of Bishop D. Rayford Bell and District Elder Robinson. The church was moved to 3915 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago, IL, and suddenly Elder Owens passed. The membership unanimously elected Elder Bellamy to serve as pastor.

Under Elder Bellamy's leadership the building on Roosevelt Road was purchased, and God continuously added to the membership. In 1975, the saints marched into the present location at 502 S. Sixth Avenue, Maywood, Illinois. Christ Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. became the regional location for many civic and religious entities, including the first home of the Midwest Apostolic Bible College, which is affiliated with the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith (P.C.A.F.).

Elder Bellamy taught both public speaking I and II, and Pentecostal Doctrine I and II for many years. He was elected Vice Chairman of the Illinois State Council for approximately 14 years. Then, he was elected Council Chairman. He was elected chairman of the United Pastor's Alliance of the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith (P.C.A.F.) and served until elevated to be a District Elder. He was then elected to be Chairman of the Board of District Elders, where he served faithfully until he was consecrated as Bishop on August 6, 1993. He received Honorary Doctorates in Divinity and Theology from Pentecostal Bible College in Tuskegee, Alabama. He served as Diocesan over the states of North Carolina and Hawaii.

Bishop Dr. John P. Bellamy, Sr. was an apologist for the Apostolic Doctrine. He began weekly radio broadcasts preaching the unadulterated Apostolic Doctrine. He believed in the laying on of hands. As a result of his humble ministry, God healed many sick and afflicted, blessed many financially, many souls were baptized in water in Jesus’ Name and filled with the Holy Spirit. He preached and taught the Word without compromise. He would often say, "It's Holiness or Hell", as well as “if you don't do right, hell is hot and eternity is long". The church grew with members from Maywood, the West and South sides of Chicago, and surrounding areas.

On March 6, 2006, Bishop Bellamy moved into the office of Senior Pastor thereby passing the pastoral reigns to Elder Michael Bellamy. On April 20, 2006, Bishop Bellamy went to be with the Lord.

After the passing of his father, Elder Michael Bellamy heard a voice which proclaimed, "Go Forward". He has truly been anointed by the Lord to lead the saints of Christ Temple forward. God uses him mightily to teach, preach and lead His flock with enthusiasm and compassion. As Elder Owens and Bishop Bellamy did, so shall he continue to preach and present the options of holiness or Hell. Elder Bellamy motivates and inspires the Saints with passion towards a greater love for God. He is the right person anointed and appointed for such a time as this.
